About the Ruakituri Eco Retreat

The Ruakituri Retreat is an architecturally designed fully self contained lodge overlooking the famous Ruakituri River. There are 3 main bedrooms with Queen sized beds in each room. All bedrooms are on the top story with 2 rooms overlooking the river and the third room overlooking the parkland grounds. The rooms are accessed by a timber spiral staircase and feature polished timber floors and large cathedral windows looking out to the view.

Downstairs the timber chalet style kitchen looks out onto the parkland grounds. On the river side of the retreat the lounge with cosy open fire and sitting rooms take advantage of full glass frontage to take in the native bush and river views. French doors open out onto a covered veranda specially designed to offer that place at the end of the day to sit and enjoy the tranquil setting with a glass of one of New Zealand’s world class sauvignon blanc wines.

Organic Orchard

The Retreat has a tranquil organic orchard which is for your enjoyment and use. In season there are cherries, grapes, apples, peaches, avocados, grapefruit, oranges, lemons, blackberries and pears. If the fruit are in season please enjoy them during your stay.

Getting There

The Ruakituri Retreat is situated 89 km from Gisborne and 48 km from Wairoa on the rugged east coast of New Zealand’s North Island, and is serviced by a sealed road. Getting to and from the retreat is an experience in itself, traveling along through the rugged hill country farmland and along beautiful river valleys. The journey from Gisborne takes approximately one hour and twenty minutes by car and from Wairoa approximately 50 minutes.
